Godzilla Gashapon: Every Bandai Line Sorted, and Where to Buy Them

Godzilla gashapon are Bandai's capsule-machine figures and charms, led by the HG Series that has run since 1994. You can find them in capsule machines, through Bandai's US catalog and, for some lines, as blind bags online. This guide sorts the lines by name and format, says where to buy each one, and flags what I could not confirm.

What is Godzilla gashapon?

Godzilla gashapon are small Godzilla collectibles that Bandai sells through capsule machines. The core line is the HG Series, which began in 1994 and gets new waves around Godzilla films. Newer lines include HG D+, HGX and Machiboke, plus blind bags sold in the US.

"Gashapon" is a Bandai trademark, and Bandai's US gashapon site files Godzilla under its own item category. When I checked on 19 October 2026, that category held 20 items. Not all are figures: the list includes a tote bag, an acrylic stand and a rubber charm next to the figure sets. The sections below cover the figure lines first, then the goods. If you are new to capsule toys, our explainer on what gashapon is covers the machines and the capsule format.

The Godzilla gashapon lines

HG Series: the original line

Bandai Since 1994

HG stands for "High Grade." Wikizilla's HG Series page describes it as a line of two-inch collectible figures sold mainly from vending machines, most needing at least minor assembly. The first Godzilla wave arrived in 1994 alongside Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, and the first Gamera wave followed in 1995. Waves usually launch with a new film in either franchise.

The same page lists numbered waves running through the 2000s, the Chronicle sets in 2005 and 2006, and film tie-ins such as Shin Godzilla in August 2016. Recent waves keep the pattern: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (September 2024, with Godzilla, Kong, Shimo and Skar King) and Destroy All Monsters (November 2024), which marked Godzilla's 70th anniversary and the HG Series' 30th. That set has Godzilla (1968), Rodan (1964), Baragon (1965) and Gorosaurus (1967).

HG D+: figures inside diorama shells

Bandai Since May 2019 4 figures per wave

HG D+ stands for "High Grade Diorama." According to Wikizilla, Godzilla 01 came out in the fourth week of May 2019 for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The figures sit in round shells textured like Godzilla's skin, and the shells open into dioramas. Godzilla 02 to 07 followed from November 2019 to October 2021 with four figures each, and Wave 06 (August 2021) tied in with Godzilla vs. Kong.

Bandai's US catalog also carries HGD+ Godzilla 2nd Collection, 3rd Collection and 4th Collection. I could not confirm from the product pages which Wikizilla waves those correspond to, because the pages list no contents or dates.

HG D+ EX and HGX: the bigger builds

Bandai Premium Bandai and gashapon

Two side lines go beyond the standard four-figure wave. HG D+ EX sets include a Mothra, Rodan and Mothra Larva box released by Premium Bandai in November 2019 with three figures, and a single large Biollante (Plant Beast Form) with a light-up function, announced in August 2020 for March 2021.

HGX stands for "High Grade Crossover." Wikizilla says it was announced in May 2022 with seven sets based on Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. Each set holds one figure plus parts of another, and collecting all seven builds Destoroyah's Perfect Form. A separately sold light unit makes the Godzilla 1995 figure glow.

Still Waiting for You and Let's Get in Line

Bandai Separate catalog names

Bandai's US catalog lists "Godzilla Still Waiting for You," "Godzilla Still Waiting for You 2" and "Godzilla Still Waiting for You Deformed." It also lists "Let's Get in Line Kaiju-san Godzilla Ver." and "Godzilla Kaiju-san Let's Get in Line 2." These product pages show the names and photos only: no figure list, price or release date. I won't describe their contents beyond that.

One related note: the Godzilla Official Store sells "Bandai Machiboke 01 and 02 Figure Blind Bag." The Still Waiting for You naming and the Machiboke naming look related, but I found no source that says they are the same line, so treat them as separate until Bandai says otherwise.

Charms, stands and other goods

The rest of Bandai's US Godzilla category is merchandise rather than figure waves: a Toho Monster Series DVD Miniature Charm Collection, a Chibi Godzilla Personal Marker Charm, a Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Rubber Charm, a Godzilla Head, a poster acrylic stand and a tote bag. They matter if you collect everything with the Godzilla license, but they are not the figure lines collectors usually mean by the term.

How to tell the Godzilla gashapon lines apart

Start with the name on the product page or capsule, since each line carries its own.

  • "HG Series" with a film or theme in the name (Destroy All Monsters, Godzilla vs Mothra): the standard two-inch figures, sold in waves tied to a movie or anniversary.
  • "HGD+" or "HG D+" followed by a collection number: the diorama-shell figures, four per wave.
  • "HG D+ EX" or "HGX": the larger or multi-part sets, such as Biollante or the seven-set Destoroyah build.
  • "Still Waiting for You" and "Let's Get in Line": the separate names Bandai uses for its other Godzilla figure sets.
  • "Charm", "Stand" or "Tote Bag" in the name: merchandise, not a figure wave.

Bandai's own product pages are thin. The ones I opened (Destroy All Monsters Vol.2, Still Waiting for You Deformed, Godzilla 4th Collection, Let's Get in Line 2) had no price, size or release date, and pointed to "Gashapon Machine" as the place to buy. For contents and dates, Wikizilla is the better reference.

Godzilla blind bags sold in the US

In 2024, Bandai Namco released several HG D+ figures in the US as blind bags, sold at pop-culture stores such as Hot Topic and on the official Godzilla website. Wikizilla lists eight figures: Godzilla 1989, Godzilla 1994, Little Godzilla, Hedorah, SpaceGodzilla, Biollante (Flower Beast Form), Mechagodzilla (Type-3 Kiryu) and Moguera (1994).

The Godzilla Official Store keeps a "Blind Boxes" collection that held 29 products when I checked on 19 October 2026. It mixes makers, so read the title before you buy:

  • Bandai items: "Bandai Machiboke 01 and 02 Figure Blind Bag" at $7.99, "Bandai Mini Godzilla Collection 2 Blind Box Figure" at $4.99 (low inventory) and "Bandai Godzilla Gashapon Blind Figure" at $7.99 (sold out).
  • Other makers: Super7, Megahouse (Hedorah Inside Fantasy), Rokimoto, Loungefly and Toho plush. These are blind boxes but not Bandai gashapon.

Prices and stock on a store page move, so treat those numbers as a snapshot from the check date.

Where to buy Godzilla gashapon outside Japan

Start with the official routes. Bandai's US gashapon site links to a store location page at us.gashapon.jp/shop/ for machines, and the Godzilla Official Store sells the blind-bag versions online. For older waves such as the 1990s HG numbered sets, or Premium Bandai items like the Mothra and Rodan box, you will be buying secondhand.

Our guide to buying gashapon outside Japan walks through proxy services and shipping. Secondhand Godzilla sets are exactly where fakes turn up, so read how to spot fake gashapon before you pay for anything out of its capsule. If a seller will not show the original shell, the paint on the fins and the packaging, skip the listing. I did not price secondhand Godzilla figures for this article, so I have no resale numbers to give you.

Displaying Godzilla figures

HG D+ figures come with their diorama shells, so the shell is part of the display. The HG Series figures are small enough for a shelf or a deep frame. For layouts, risers and lighting, see our gashapon display ideas.
